We live this too.
We started Beyond the Distance Marriage because we saw a need for marriage resources that speak directly to couples separated regularly by work.
This is the world we live in ourselves. Matthew travels for work as a pilot, while Kandice experiences the responsibilities and challenges of being the spouse at home, caring for three kids while Matthew is away.
From both sides, we’ve seen how quickly distance can affect communication, emotional connection, intimacy, parenting, and trust.
Our desire is to help couples face those challenges intentionally and to strengthen their marriages in practical ways.
Everything we create is rooted in the Bible and our conviction that Christ belongs at the center of marriage. We believe that even physical distance can become an opportunity to grow in faithfulness, sacrifice, understanding, and love.
We understand both sides of the distance.
Work travel affects each spouse differently. BTD is shaped by the experience of both the person leaving and the person holding things together at home.
The spouse who travels
Traveling for work brings its own pressures: long days, changing schedules, fatigue, missed moments at home, and the challenge of staying emotionally present when you are physically somewhere else.
The spouse at home
Life at home can mean carrying more of the daily load, parenting through another absence, making decisions alone, and still trying to protect connection with the person you miss.
Distance changes the rhythm of marriage.
Most marriage advice assumes both spouses are living the same daily rhythm. Work-travel marriages often are not. Departures, reunions, changing responsibilities, missed routines, loneliness, fatigue, and different expectations can create pressures that are easy to underestimate.
Beyond the Distance Marriage exists to give couples practical tools for those specific moments — before the trip, while you are apart, when you come home, and in the ordinary days in between.
Our goal is not simply to help couples survive work travel. We want to help marriages grow stronger through intentional communication, faithfulness, prayer, understanding, and a shared commitment to Christ.
